Hawaii Cell Service & the Hottest Cell Phone Releases

Jun 14th, 2008

I don’t know anyone, besides my non-technological parents, who doesn’t own a cell phone. In this day and age, cell phones are not a convenience anymore…they are more of a necessity. I would say, based on the amount of people who have this wireless service, that Verizon Wireless is the most popular cell phone service providers in Hawaii. After Verizon comes AT&T (formerly Cingular), Sprint and Nextel. So, which provider has the best reception in Hawaii?

Altogether, I would have to say Verizon. This is not a biased conclusion either as I do not subscribe to them. I have an AT&T plan because I love the Apple iPhone. Verizon is the service of choice amongst my friends on all islands. If you live on Oahu or are planning to travel there, all of the above services work find in most areas. You should have no issues with cell phone reception on Oahu. Verizon reception is also quite clear on the islands of Kauai, Big Island, Maui, and Lanai. There are major areas on Molokai where Verizon has very low reception. If you’re on Molokai or are planning to travel there, it is said that Nextel cell phones have the best reception there.

Cell Service Providers & Customer Service

Not only are they said to have the clearest reception, but their customer service is hard to beat. The cell phone service with the most votes for the poorest customer service goes to Sprint and Nextel. I have found AT&T customer service to be up to par. If you have got reviews of cell service providers and their customer service, please feel free to comment on them in the comment box below.

New Cell Phones

If you’re on the prow for a new cell phone, here are a few picks.

Apple iPhone 3G cell phone

Apple is all set to release the newest version of the Apple iPhone: the Apple iPhone 3G. The iPhone 3G will be released to the world on July 11, 2008. GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G technology, and great music and video packed into one sexy and stylish iPhone…can you ask for anything more out of a phone? You probably could, but I have always been a big fan of Apple products. One of the best things about the release of Apple’s new iPhone cell phone is the price. Upon release, the iPhone 3G will cost $199.00. This isn’t the cheapest cell phone out there, but compared to the price that the first and original iPhone started off with, this isn’t too bad.

Samsung Omnia cell phone

The Samsung Omnia is one of the newest Samsung cell phones. The Omnia has got a 3.2″ screen which makes it sufficient for viewing photos and videos (for a cell phone). Samsung has also managed to pack GPS capabilities as well as high megapixel digital camera into this nifty and trendy little cell phone.

Panasonic P905i cell phone

The Panasonic P905i cell phone seems like it is also fashioned to compete with the Apple iPhone. This Panasonic cell phone has got a 3″ widescreen display and a 5.1 megapixel digital camera built in.

Well, whatever island you live on in Hawaii, you will probably be in need of a cell phone. I can tell you for sure that AT&T, Verizon, and Nextel are the cell phone service providers that have reception on all major Hawaiian islands. We, at Local Kine, are always on the lookout for a great cell phone. If you’ve got a great tip for us as well as our other readers, feel free to leave us a cell phone review or service comment in the comment section below. Aloha
