This YouTube video was shown on the KGMB9 news recently, and has been the topic of conversation of many local fishermen and surfers here.
Could this be Bruno’s dad? (Just a little Moloka’i insider question)
The awesomely huge shark was seen lurking in Hawaiian waters off of the northeast coast of Moloka’i by Hawaii oceanography researchers during a submersible dive. Seen in depths of 3280 feet, this 6 gill shark is estimated to be 1 meter wide and 18 feet in length.
Although the shark footage was just released on YouTube a few weeks ago, the video was taken back in 2006.

About the 6 Gill Shark
The shark seen in the video was identified by Dr. Eric Vetter as a Hexanchus Griseus, otherwise known as a cow shark. Very fitting considering it’s size. Hexanchus Griseus are a deep water species, and are usually found in depths of 300 ft. to as much as 6,000 ft. The normal size of cow sharks span up to 15.5 - 16 feet in length making the one seen above a bit of a giant for its kind.
