“Certainty? In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes…”
Those famous words were uttered by Benjamin Franklin, which brings me to my post subject: It’s Tax filing season. I’m sure many of us, myself included, can relate to the poor guy in the photograph. The deadline for filing is less than two months away. Have you done your tax filing yet?
Tax Filing Options
I’ve recently been receiving a substantial amount of questions regarding Hawaii tax filing, which is the major inspiration for this post. So…for those that would like to be briefed on tax filing options, we basically have two options when it comes to sending our tax forms in:
send tax forms through regular air mail
Mailing our tax forms via air mail is the classic way of filing, and it takes about 6-8 weeks to receive our tax returns (for those of us that receiving money back).
file taxes via e-file
The benefits of going online and filing taxes via e-file is (as opposed to the standard mailing method):
- Less processing time
- Receive tax return as much as 4-6 weeks faster (you may receive your tax return in as little time as 2 weeks if you chose receiving your tax return via direct deposit to your banking account)
e-file Information & Where You Can Download Hawaii Tax Forms
e-filing
If you would like to do your taxes via e-file, you may want to check out an online tax service such as TaxBrain. The site is very easy to navigate, they walk you through the tax forms using step-by-step direction via their online system, and TaxBrain is a bit cheaper than some other services I used in the past. I’ve used them personally, and they’re not too shabby.
If you’re pretty comfortable with doing a manual direct e-file you can get more information about it at the Hawaii ELF State Tax Electroning Filing page at the official Hawaii governmental website.
download hawaii tax forms
Also, you can download the regular tax forms (both resident and nonresident) at the Hawaii governmental website Income Tax information page. These forms can be downloaded in .pdf format. In order for the files to display properly on your computer, you will have to have Adobe Reader. If you don’t have this program installed on your computer, you can download it for free at the official Adobe Reader download page on the official Adobe site.
If you need additional help or information, no shame ask and I’ll try to be of as much assistance as I can. If you know something we don’t, no shame tell…we’ll be glad to hear from you. Mahalo Nui

It’s tax time in Canada as well. I’ve already e-filed my own return.
