Feb 5th, 2008

There are few downsides to living in Hawaii. With beautiful Hawaiian beaches and sunsets, there are very few more things that you could ask for.

Shipping & Handling Charges to Hawaii

However, one of them is the outstanding shipping and handling charges from purchasing goods from various online merchants and catalogs from the Mainland or outside of the United States. Many of these online and catalog goods are shipped to Hawaii via UPS or FedEx. At times, shipping charges can cost more than the actual purchased item itself.

Do you order products and goods online often? I can imagine that those living on Lana’i and Moloka’i due to the lack of major retail stores (Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Costco).

Well, I personally do a lot of online shopping. To help you find online retailers with reasonable, if not free, shipping costs, Hawaii Local Kine dot org will be featuring reviews of online stores that offer such.

Amazon.com | Featured Online Store with Free Shipping to Hawaii

Amazon.com is an online retailer that offers various types of goods from electronics to housewares to grocery items to books and movies. Many of the items that are sold directly by Amazon.com have free shipping options (provided that you spend a minimum of $25 on items directly sold by Amazon.com).

I have bought items ranging from digital cameras (a new Canon SD750 Digital Elph with 2GB SD card) to iPod Nanos to large bottles of Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner with no problems. The main reason that I purchase products from them, as opposed to scouring eBay for a better deal, is because of the free shipping options and decent return policy.

The only shipment I’ve had problems with was when purchasing a set of dishes. They arrived with a few plates broken. That problem was solved by clicking on the ‘Return Items’ link on your Amazon account page. I just followed the instructions there, printed out a shipping label and shipped the item back via USPS. The return shipping was free, and they didn’t wait to receive the item before shipping a replacement. In fact, I received the replacement in less than a week’s time.

Basic Steps for Shopping at Amazon.com Online Store

The Amazon.com storefront is user-friendly and very easy to navigate. In this post, we have included a sample of Daily Deals that Amazon.com offers.

To purchase products from them, you must have fill out a simple registration form, have an email address, and have a debit/credit card or bank account. If you have more questions about them, feel free to ask question in the comment form below at the end of this post.

How to Tell if an Item Qualifies for Free Super Saver Shipping

On the product detail page, you will see a price and shipping description at the top of the page similar to this:

Amazon’s Customer Service Toll-Free Number

If you wish to contact Amazon by phone, finding their toll-free customer service number on their website is a major pain in the okole. I guess they prefer to do all transactions online. FYI, here’s the number if you’re ever in need of it:

1-800-201-7575

Well, that’s a wrap. Once again, feel free to ask any questions regarding this, or any other posts on Local Kine Hawaii through the comments section below the relative posts, or the Local Kine Hawaii Contact form. Mahalo
